Following charges concerned with sexual misconduct, the player was allegedly not paid his salary while he was awaiting trial.

‘Manchester City FC failed to pay Mr Mendy any wages at all from September 2021, following Mr Mendy being charged with various offence all of which he was subsequently acquitted of, until the end of his contract in June 2023. The claim will come before an Employment Tribunal,’ according to the statement released concerning the new development.

Though Mendy was acquitted of all charges following the trials, the club reportedly withheld his salary until the time of this report. Benjamin Mendy faced about eight different charges but was proven not guilty of them all, but the legal expenses were mammoth to the point that it was suspected that they nearly brought him to bankruptcy.

Benjamin Mendy reportedly owes up to eight hundred thousand pounds in taxes.

‘He himself has moved back to France where he comes from,’ an insider who is an accountant had said. ‘I would like to ask for a short extension because I am told very firmly by his agent that the pay issue will be resolved from Manchester City. He was very short of money indeed, the cost of the legal case were over £1m.’
