Frustrated Wayne Rooney shown the door at Birmingham
Wayne Rooney’s has been sacked by Birmingham following less-than-a-year disastrous performance.
The former English international watched his boys get beaten by three goals to nothing by Leeds United on December 31.
Fans were justifiably annoyed with the former Manchester United player, and the higher-ups decided to show him the door. His boys were able to win only two matches out of the club’s last fifteen, keeping the club behind.
Before his managerial role at Birmingham commenced, the club’s chief executive, Garry Cook, said what he expected of the icon.
‘Wayne’s role here is to be a leader, to drive a successful, ambitious and winning mentality,’ he said. ‘This is another milestone for Birmingham City. With it comes great expectation.’
But Rooney’s sack came nearer after Birmingham’s 3-1 home loss to Stoke City. His bosses at Birmingham could clearly could not give him further opportunity following the defeat to Leeds United.
Rooney said he understood why fans at Birmingham would be angry at him after his boy’s underwhelming performance against Stoke City.
‘One hundred per cent. I’m a football person, I understand football. As a fan, when you see that performance on Boxing Day, I get it,’ he had said.
‘I’m frustrated and angry with every part of the game barring Romelle.
‘He’s 17 years old and I’m using him as an example to some senior professionals. I’m not happy with one of them.
‘If any player is sat in there thinking they have played well, then that’s a real concern.
‘I’m not going to sit here and make excuses. It’s my responsibility. This wasn’t anywhere near the level I expect.’
There are few people Birmingham bosses might use to fill Rooney’s sit.
The coach had not even stayed for up to one year before being relieved of his duties.
