‘Humble’ Martin Odegaard disagrees with pundits on Arsenal’s celebration
Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville recently displayed displeasure concerning how Arsenal celebrated their win over Liverpool. Martin Odegaard has replied that the pundits were wrong about Gunners’ celebration.
Arsenal were rightly happy after a first-half mistake failed to make them lose against their visiting opponents. However, the celebration of the victory went on to the the point that Sky Sports pundits Neville and Carragher were offended.
In reply, Odegaard said the following:
‘No, I think everyone who loves football and understands football, they know how much it means to win this game.
‘And if you’re not allowed to celebrate when you win, when are you allowed to celebrate? We’re happy and we’ll stay humble. After being at the top for so long last season, we always prefer to be at the top, of course.
‘But we’re still in a good position, we showed today the quality we have in the team, in a big game, a lot to play for.
‘It would have been a tough one for us to lose today – that would have left us eight points behind, but we really showed up and it was a great performance overall.’
An own goal by Arsenal nearly weighed them down during the match, but coach Mikel Arteta allegedly told the squad not to wallow in self-pity.
The result was a 2–1 victory.
