Marcus Rashford survived a car crash recently, after Manchester United’s narrow-escape 1-0 victory against Burnley.

The incident took place yesterday’s night while the players were returning from the contest. Rashford was travelling in his own expensive car, while the others rode together in a coach.

No insinuations suggest the player was drunk, or that he intentionally wanted to hurt himself. Following the unfortunate event, the player and his fellow victim, the other driver were found safe and sound. Medical personnel found no reason to hold them back for treatment, while the police only had to do a routine check up on the two.

At the match with Burnley, the only goal was scored by Bruno Fernandes, while Manchester United’s goal token continues to struggle. But coach Erik Ten Hag praised the team at the post-match conference, saying that they played as a team instead of the opposite.

After the disastrous trilogy of losses that Red Devils suffered, their future in the competition became extremely shaky. Key team members that underwent a series of backlash include goalkeeper Andre Onana and Marcus Rashford. Things even came to a point that Onana’s place in the club became predictably unsure, but Erik Ten Hag would not confess that or let the blame fall entirely on anybody in particular.

His post-match interview after the last loss showed him saying that the entire team failed. This seems to have encouraged the team to work together. Manchester United really needed a win as he admitted in his most recent interview.

‘It was clear. Of course we needed that win., Ten Hag said. ‘We had a tough run of games against good opponents. It wasn’t necessary to lose those games. Today was must-win. The team spirit and how they fight together. It was a team attacking with 11 and defending with 11. They supported each other.

‘A lot has been against us, like injuries and decisions. Like tonight. Murphy’s Law where everything goes against us. You have to fight and find a turning point. It shows the dressing room is together. They fight together. In stages of the all the games we’ve played we’ve played good football.

‘But if you want to win you have to do it consistently. That was a brilliant spell of the game. The pass from Evans was brilliant, the movement and finish from Bruno too. Last year we had the most clean sheets in the Premier League. We were disciplined and followed the rules. When we do that it’s difficult to play against Manchester United. He [Evans] gave the team calmness. His skills were brilliant, as with the goal.’

Even though Ten Hag confessed these, it is clear that more is expected of Marcus Rashford, whose name and place in the club posits him very high. As they say, ‘To whom much is given, much will be expected.’

It would be right to say he has not been having a great season at the club, given the volleys of bad results coming in from the team’s hard work. Manchester United might do well to measure his mental health.
