Lionel Messi revealed why he chose the MLS after snubbing more lucrative options like Saudi Arabia. Among the things he said was that he wanted to enjoy playing football like when he was a kid.

‘My happiness was always playing football and being able to have fun with what I liked when I was a kid and what I had fun with all my life. And today, I can continue to do it here, which was one of the reasons why I made the decision to return to enjoying what I had lost a little’ – Messi.

While being interviewed, the other-GOAT said he never enjoyed the past two years in PSG. He declared they were heavy for he and his family. Explaining further, he added that the journey to the United States of America was a family decision. He also admitted that his family were loving the atmosphere in the North American country.

The statement did not reveal what he disliked about the places he rejected, but a statement he made seems to point to something he did not want to say word-for-word:

‘My escapes to the national team when I was called up, those were my happiest moments because I enjoyed the place I was in, my teammates. I wanted to come here and find the same thing, and thank God, I found it.’

From his statement, it seems they no more celebrated him at the French club he left, and that he was well-welcomed and accepted at Inter Miami CF. Remember he is well respected in his national team as a hero would be.

The heavyweight player was not delivering as was desired in PSG, and most thought he was getting too old for the position he was occupying. It was a shock to the world of soccer that he chose MLS; and not only that, he chose the worst team.

This year he amazed the global public and thrilled his fans by getting his new club their first cup ever; something that was far beyond their reach.

Messi’s deal with the MLS brought the club lots of money-making opportunities, and even before Messi spoke to a news outlet called Mundo Deportivo about the deal, ticket prices were tremendously increasing at the club. They jumped from 81 to 624 dollars.

‘I have made the decision that I am going to Miami. I still don’t have it agreed upon 100%, and a few things are needed, but, well, we decided to continue my path there.’

Now the team is in preparation to build a stadium at Miami Freedom Park. It is estimated to be a one billion dollars venture. The purpose of this arena is to provide a place for the star to shine. On Instagram, the number of their followers jumped higher than that of other US teams, showing that football  was for once making greater waves in the country than her beloved basketball.

Many wonder how much the player stands to make in the MLS arena where he has already played a season, but a look at some business agreements put in place beforehand by Messi and the club during the deal is the best route to judge by. The star earns both from Adidas,  and Apple TV, the company that serves the matches to spectators’ televisions.

Messi rejected a deal worth 300,ooo,ooo dollars per year beforehand when it came from Saudi Arabia.

It was clear that his reason for being in the United States was not only the money, but the privilege to do what he loves, and enjoy doing it at the same time.
