Pep Guardiola surprises fans, reveals what helped Manchester City beat FC Copenhagen
Manchester City gaffer Pep Guardiola was prepared for Danish club FC Copenhagen before his squad met The Lions at Parken. The tactician has now revealed the secret that helped City win.
City beat FCK by three goals to one during a very interesting game at The Lions’ home in the capital of Denmark on Tuesday. Clubs like Bayern Munich and Manchester United have suffered defeats to FC Copenhagen before the match.
Speaking during a post-match interview recorded by mancity.com, Guardiola revealed a secret he learned about their opponents which helped him craft a winning strategy.
‘As a team they don’t come to take the ball – they come to defend the space,’ he said.
‘They wait for you to lose the ball. The players don’t press, they defend the space.
‘That’s why you have to be so patient, move them left and right attack them and don’t concede transitions.’
The coach knew the match would not be easy.
‘I know how difficult it is.
‘When people think it is easy, that makes it easy but it is not. Ask Bayern Munich and Galatasaray and Manchester United how hard it is.
‘They are a really tough opponent. We played really good.
‘My job is to warn the players and tell them the attributes we will need and they proved it and felt it. We behaved with the correct personality and patience and everyone was at top, top level.
‘You don’t make this level in last-16 without it. Hopefully we can make the next step and go to the quarter-finals.’
The second leg of the Champions League round 16 will see City having a two-point advantage over The Lions.
