Carl Martin Froch confessed that the rematch where Eubank Jr dropped Liam Smith twice was the best of Eubank Jr he had seen yet. The drops took place in the fourth and tenth rounds respectively. The referee had to end the match after the second one, after considering Liam Smith no longer able to defend himself.

Carl Froch himself is no stranger to retirement time. The former-fighter who is now a commentator and analyst had a total of 35 bouts during his boxing career, winning a respectable 24 and losing only 2. His days in the ring started in 2002 and ended in 2014. Both Liam Smith and Chris Eubank Jr are his fellow Brits.

Speaking his mind on the match, he did not seem to agree with the idea of a further rematch between the two fighters. But Liam Smith has other thoughts.

I’ll get over this and see what’s next. It doesn’t take a genius to see how I performed in that fight. We’ll see what’s next. It’s 1-1 – that doesn’t settle nothing for me.’

– Liam Smith.

Had Liam Smith won the fight on September 2, it would have been the end of the road for Eubank Jr, since the likelihood of getting matches with higher fighters in the boxing division would have been hindered. Both had a future to defend, so Liam Smith has failed after working very hard.

This improvement on Eubank Jr’s side did not fall from the sky, though. The fighter sought tutelage from one of the best coaches in the world, an American called Brian “BoMac” McIntyre. The trainer is known especially for taking Boxer Terence Crawford to the list of the top fighters.

‘If the fans want to see a third fight,’ Eubank Jr said post-fight. ‘You know me: I don’t back down from a challenge,”

Chris Eubank Jr’s promoter Kalle Sauerland has also made the team’s plans clear: ‘I know you all want to ask lots of questions about the next fight. There is no plan right now. We’re going to enjoy the celebration and on Monday at 9am we’ll get cracking. We saw the best Eubank Jr we’ve ever seen.’

Both fighters made lots of dough from the competition.

Smith got more than $500,000 plus 40% of the PPV money. Both fighters got $1 million each besides other pays. to highligh the amount made from the PPV, UK subscribers paid £19.95, while  those from the Republic Of Ireland paid €24.95.
