Cris Cyborg and PFL founder Donn Davis go public
Bellator featherweight champion Cris Cyborg and PFL founder Donn Davis spoke publicly about a possible difference in perspectives.
Cyborg formerly accused the founder of delaying her title defence against Larissa Pacheco for an evil reason.
According to Cyborg, the PFL founder who bought Bellator recently wanted Pacheco to beat her during the bout. How she said he wanted to do it was by hindering the fight till she was unable to defend her title well.
Davis was speaking to MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani sometime ago, and reacted as follows concerning the allegation:
‘I don’t get too wrapped up into emotions.Fighters are very driven to be their best.
‘I’m very driven to be my best. As I always say, I’m a fighter, too. I’m just fighting to build the PFL company into a co-leader in MMA. So I’m intense. I get down, I get up. The world beats me up. All the same things that happen to them.
‘I know what they all go through. So I don’t take any of that personally. Our company tries to respect, and roll with the punches, and take all that. So, to me, no big deal.
‘All of our fighters, we want to build them up as great as they be, have them make as much money as they can, give them every opportunity they can. So to me, no big deal.’
Davis promised during the interview that Cyborg would only get the best bouts in the future.
‘Cris is certainly on the Mount Rushmore; some people would say the greatest of all time. She’s a pay-per-view fighter.
‘So when her account — whether it’s her or somebody else running it — says, ‘Fight me. Why am I not fighting?’ She’s earned the respect of only having big fights.
‘I don’t understand why Bellator was fighting her in little fights. She’s earned the respect of big fights, so we’re only going to give her big fights — important fights with big promotion on big stages. Because that’s what she’s earned.’
More is to be expected from this situation.
