Drake loses 700K USD following Sean Strickland defeat
Former UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland failed to defend his title against South African contender, Dricus Du Plessis, making actor and musician Drake lose a 700K USD bet.
Strickland performed well throughout the match, but because of a judge’s score card, Drake who was watching live waved goodbye to a good amount of cash.
Recall that before Strickland beat Nigeria’s Israel Adesanya last year in a shocking upset, Drake expected Adesanya who was still the middleweight king to win. The American musician and actor had staked a 500K USD bet in that direction.
‘Drake’s Curse’ is once again trending because of this recent loss, with people repeating as usual that the musician is really cursed to lose his bets. It has been revealed once again how dangerous it seems to be staked on by the respectable rapper.
Meanwhile, following Adesanya’s astonishing defeat last year, Adesanya could have requested an immediate rematch, and Dana White the CEO of UFC could have granted it. White showed this during his post-match statement.
But possibly after listening to Kamaru Usman his compatriot, Adesanya decided to postpone his return till after a good rest. Adesanya did defend his title several times before losing to Strickland, and is presently the real star of the UFC middleweight division.
It is no wonder that Dricus Du Plessis is expected to call out to Adesanya after beating Strickland at UFC 297. The Nigerian might accept the challenge too, having promised to return to the octagon in 2024.
As Drake licks his wounds, athletes might have to send him money and messages to implore him never to bet on them.
