Fellow-compatriot Kamaru Usman thinks Israel Adesanya should take a break
A fellow-compatriot of Israel Adesanya’s (24-3 MMA, 13-3 UFC) aired his view on the Strickland-Adesanya rematch, stating that ‘ the activity might be a little too much’ for Adesanya. Meaning he votes against the rematch. He thinks Adesanya should take a break. Kamaru Usman was once in Adesanya’s shoes, and related how the shoe feels in his statements.
After the stunning title upset at UFC 293 last Saturday, in which former-middleweight champion Israel Adesanya lost to Sean Strickland (28-5 MMA, 15-5 UFC), most have spoken to counter UFC president Dana White’s suggestion for a rematch.
Nigerian UFC superstar Kamaru Usman thinks Israel Adesanya should take a break and let Strickland contest with other fighters. In his opinion, Adesanya should refresh and then return in the future for his belt.
‘For Izzy [Adesanya], I think the activity might be a little too much,’ explained Kamaru Usman ‘Izzy has been fighting a lot. Between when I was champion, myself, Izzy, we were fighting for quite a few pay-per-views. Izzy’s at a point where I think he could just take a little break, and I think he can make the necessary adjustments to be able to come out there and win that fight.’
“For Israel, as a competitor,’ Usman discussed. ‘I’m sure he’s feeling a bit of this, as well, and thinking, ‘No, this guy shouldn’t have beat me in the first place’ just like I felt.
‘This guy shouldn’t be in there with me in the first place as I felt and so you want to get it back and get that stain off you right away. But if you’re guaranteed that shot, I would like to see him take a little bit of time, enjoy life.’
Those in every field are always blessed and cursed with the experiences of others of the same trade. It seems hard for ego to fall before humans when the the reason for their glory has been tampered with. If this proves true in Adesanya’s case, many think he would be in for a louder loss that might damage his career. In fact, many fans of his are looking keenly to see the next decision their hero would make. Any choice he makes will affect many.
“Yes, I was definitely in his position,’ fellow-compatriot Kamaru Usman said. ‘I honestly, looking back now, I probably rushed it. I probably should have taken a little bit more time off and then I’m still guaranteed that shot to go fight for that title.’
