Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington unimpressed by MVP’s UFC debut

UFC fighters Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington dislike Michael ‘Venom’ Page’s (MVP’s) UFC debut performance.

MVP beat Kevin Holland of UFC’s welterweight division during his first fight under the promotion. This was at UFC 299 on Saturday.

One of the surprising things the new man did was that he walked in to the sound of a remix of Undertaker’s WWE music.

However, Covington believed that Holland was not a hard fighter to win. Covington’s criticism of the overall performance was as follows while talking to Submission Radio:

‘The guy is trash, he’s a bum. I mean look at his last fight before that. He got beat by a guy who fights in Indian casinos, he got beat by Mike Perry.

‘We saw how the Mike Perry experience ended up the in the UFC, guy getting his nose crooked smashed and knocked out like three of four times in a row.

‘It just shows, the kid (Page) is just hype and they’re trying to hype him up. They’re giving him a guy in Kevin Holland who’s a complete scrub. I mean 50:50 fighter at best in the division, so, you know, like, that’s all you could do?

‘That pathetic fight and that pathetic walkout, like, that wasn’t entertaining. No dude, it doesn’t work, it only works when you’re good and you’re at the top of the division.’

Usman said the following in a video while being interviewed by Henry Cejudo:

‘It was a good showing. Let’s just start with the entrance, the entrance was great. I like “MVP,” I like the fact that he had the confidence to come in and do that, entrance was great… Now, based on that entrance, I would have liked to see him fight a little bit more- he’s definitely capable of something greater than what he put out.

‘This was a nice interesting twist to it. Whoever remixed this song, whichever DJ, it was nice ’cause it was The Undertaker theme at the beginning and then it turned into “Amapiano” and you can just tell “MVP” can dance, “MVP” can do his thing.’

Maybe MVP’s future performance would help change this low image. But the fact that he won his first fight is a good start.
