Kamaru Usman to support his defeater ahead of title fight

Nigeria’s Kamaru Usman announced he was going to support Leon Edwards, the guy who handed him his latest defeat, during Edwards’ title defense against Colby Covington.

‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ went on to say his reason for making the decision.

‘We know that when you’ve been gone for a year and some change, certain guys react differently to … We just don’t know how much that time is going to affect him, and that’s what scares me with Colby Covington. If it’s not that time, I’m going one hundred percent with Colby Covington.

‘But I do believe… Leon Edwards believes that he is the best welterweight on the planet right now because he got his hand raised fighting Kamaru Usman.

‘So, I do believe he’s carrying that confidence and he’s going, “Well he beat him twice, I definitely can beat this guy twice.” … I think Leon believes in that, and just for that dumb confidence alone, I’m gonna go with Edwards.’

Leon Edwards said not long ago that a former training partner of Usman’s, Garry, told him some things from such training sessions. However, Garry has grown unpopular with several gymnasiums following his set of undesired attitudes and practices.

Edwards said, ‘He’s an alight kid but he’s one of these guys who comes to the gym, he’s got his missus, his kids, his cameras, everything is recorded.

‘It’s a little bit sneaky, you know? You come to the gym today and you can see we’re all friendly and a family unit, so I feel having someone who’s a bit sneaky in the gym, it was just weird energy to have in the gym. Obviously, the coaches asked him to leave and that was it.

‘I have a lot of welterweights in my gym that I train with, so that’s not the case as far as ‘I’m scared to fight Ian’.

‘When I was fighting Usman, [Garry] was telling me stuff about Usman from when he used to train with Usman in America. So I feel like if he was doing that to Usman, he was doing that to me as well.’

Former president Donald Trump could attend Leon Edwards’ Welterweight title defense to watch his fan, Covington, contend for it.
