Al Ittihad have increased their bid for Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah, after their £150m ($270m) offer was rejected last Thursday. The Saudi SPL club once affirmed they were going to make him the best-paid football player in the world, before arriving in the UK on Monday for a marathon haggling.

The manager of the Merseyside Reds, Jurgen Klopp disclosed he never doubted Mohamed Salah’s commitment to the club. How Mohamed Salah trained and played has made him to understand that the player had no intentions of leaving.

After the goal the Egyptian player scored against Aston Villa, the coach also revealed in the post-match interview that Mohamed Salah wanted to play there and was fully committed to the team.

Among the attractions the Saudi officials came with are a  £2.45m-per-week salary, large percentage of shirt sales, £55,000 for every match the club wins, and being an ambassador for three Saudi Arabian companies. This last one is quite lucrative, since each of the companies would like to pay him £6m each.

Both club and player are being seriously tempted now.

‘When you look at what Harry Kane went for,’ said Merseyside Red, Jamie Carragher, ‘about £100m, and he is a year or two younger but he only had a year to go on his deal at Spurs.

‘Salah has two years to go, he looks after himself really well. For Liverpool to sell now, they aren’t going to want what he is worth, they will want more than that.

‘He wouldn’t be worth £150m without the Saudi market, probably closer to £100m. But why have they left it so late? If they wanted him so badly, and they were prepared to spend the money, why didn’t they do it six months ago when they might have got him?

‘It is up to Liverpool and it is up to Salah, he may not want to go. I think even for supporters who love him and don’t want him to move, if that number keeps going up and up, there is a stage where they can’t turn it down, and that would be £200m.’

Mohamed Salah has scored 188 goals for Liverpool since he was signed in 2017, and has played approximately 300 matches for them. The only reason the club would find it hard to sell him is that they need him in the team to have a good season, since they can only bring in new hands in the players’ section in January.

All these being considered, this is a complicated situation.
