In reaction to the desire of global fans, who would like to see the four belts of the men’s heavyweight boxing division united in the hands of one man, Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk signed a contract to meet in the ring and prove who is the undisputed heavyweight champion.

According to an insider, the loser during the first match is allowed by the contract to activate a rematch. Some people have argued that a trilogy could be possible too, but that Tyson Fury’s expertise would make the fight hold only twice.

Boxing experts and fighters largely believe that Oleksandr Usyk would lose in most-likely two matches but that Tyson Fury was not going to enjoy the matches.

Oleksandr Usyk, called ‘The Cat’, is known to be sneaky and dangerous. Also, the Ukrainian is an undefeated champion, just like Tyson Fury.

A look at Usyk’s recent competitions, however, proves that the right man to knock him out in the heavyweight division would be WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

These summaries were based on two things: Usyk’s style and his controversial victory over Daniel Dubois in his most recent title defence. Daniel Dubois’s body shot, which was controversially marked as a low blow, has since had more people condemning the referee’s verdict than are not.

Though Usyk proceeded to beat Dubois in the 9th round, many think the real winner should have been Dubois.

Former champion Billy Joe Saunders had this to say about what he expected to happen during the Oleksandr-Usyk-versus-Tyson-Fury match: ‘Usyk causes him problems, but don’t beat him. Usyk causes any fighter and any heavyweight on the planet serious problems, but Tyson Fury, he’s got the key to his lock.

‘It won’t be a one-sided beat down until at least six rounds are out the way, but for six rounds Usyk is a dodgy, dodgy character for anybody.’

Saunders was not alone in predicting that Tyson Fury would win. Another boxer, Otto Wallin, had this to say: ‘He [Usyk] did [look beatable against Dubois], he didn’t really shine in that fight. He got the knockout, which is good, of course, but I felt like it looked like the same guy that struggled with [Derek] Chisora.

‘It’s all about styles, I think that some styles will give Usyk a lot of problems, and probably the same with Fury, but as of right now, I think that Fury will be a big favourite.’

One of Tyson Fury’s weaknesses, which he seems to ignore, is his habit of letting himself get punched on. Though Fury has a body type that absorbs shock better than many of his contemporaries, a fighter like Oleksandr Usyk could cause way more damage than Tyson Fury might expect.

What is next? Tyson Fury has to beat Francis Ngannou, the UFC’s most dangerous puncher, on October 28 before a date is fixed for his undisputed heavyweight title contest with Oleksandr Usyk.
