Anthony Joshua reveals his view of Floyd Mayweather amid stalling of fight negotiations with Deontay Wilder
Former unified titleholder Anthony Joshua will not fight United States boxer Deontay Wilder in the ring anytime soon, but he has been vocal about his hopes and views.
Wilder’s trainer, Malik Scott, revealed that Deontay Wilder’s team is searching for other options after failing to get a Joshua-versus-Wilder match to work.
‘The communications are just on standstill. Both parties are now considering other options, just because of the communications that have died down a bit. Neither one of these guys can hold up their career any more longer than they have already held up their career,’ Scott revealed.
‘Money is not the problem, we are dealing with Saudi Arabia. They want more value concerning entertainment brought to their country and Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua as a fight plan, has frozen. Then Usyk and Fury sign a contract for a fight there in December, so it is really confusing. The only thing that I am concerned with is getting Deontay Wilder active, fighting and making big money, being involved in big-time boxing.’
While speaking further on the matter, the trainer added, ‘I just hope and pray that this fight doesn’t end up having the Lennox Lewis and Riddick Bowe effect, where two great heavyweights don’t end up fighting each other. In my opinion, I would much rather watch and much rather see Deontay fight Anthony Joshua, more than I would like to see Lennox Lewis fight Riddick Bowe.’
But Anthony Joshua wants a fight now. He has shown interest in fighting Tyson Fury. The following captures his present desire, according to what he and Eddie Hearn, his promoter, had said:
‘I am not waiting around till I’m 40. I can’t drag my career out waiting. In between waiting, I will have to do more fights, more training camps, more pressure.’
Recently, the boxer said the fighter he would like to be like It was Floyd Mayweather. Joshua has high views of Mayweather.
‘Undefeated. He has beaten so many world champions,’ Joshua said of him. ‘Unbreakable mindset. Great talent matched with hard work,. He’s in a league of his own.’
