WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, announced after the October 28 bout between Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou that the undisputed world heavyweight title bout between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk will no longer take place on December 23 as was initially planned.

This was because of the unexpected wounds the WBC champion accumulated while contesting with the Cameroonian boxing debutant, who even knocked him down in the third round.

Now it has been stated that the new date for the undisputed world heavyweight title bout will be made known as soon as next week.

Before the match between Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou, IBF, WBA, and WBO heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk commented that no particular date had been given him and that this would make him ignorant of the amount of time he needed to prepare for the undisputed title bout.

Usyk had argued that he needed a 14-week training period before being ready to face the WBC champion, but as soon as the faceoff between Fury and Ngannou portrayed the once-scary Fury in another light, Usyk’s voice and that of his team grew loud, calling for the undisputed contest to happen as soon as possible.

In reply to how long the contract signed by Usyk and Fury for the undisputed bout is valid, Fury’s promoter Frank Warren clarified recently, ‘The next mandatory fight is Hrgovic for Usyk. The IBF have sanctioned the [undisputed] fight, contracts were lodged. That’s the only reason [we announced the Usyk fight before Ngannou], we weren’t being disrespectful to Ngannou.

‘We had to lodge the contracts. Once those contracts are lodged, they had to then give them to the other side, which is Hrgovic’s team. It’s got to take place in the next five, six months.’

Whoever wins the bout between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk will have to face Filip Hrgovic, according to the IBF.
