Manchester United flop praises team’s strikers

A Manchester United flop spoke highly of the Red Devils’ strikers recently, though some fans were possibly left confused in the end.

Englishman and defensive midfielder Harry Maguire has declared that his brothers on the pitch at Manchester United who played the role of strikers were prolific goal scorers during training sessions.

‘I see them (the forwards) day in, day out in training and they all have the ability to score goals,’ Maguire declared.

‘At the moment we are not scoring enough but we aren’t keeping enough clean sheets as well, that’s how I look at it.

‘Maybe a little bit of luck will turn, they’ll get the first one and the goals will follow.’

The confusion some fans possibly had was whether there was a player who could not score goals. It is clear to some pundits that the problem at Manchester United is not the lack of those to kick the ball into the net but players able to break through defences.

The defences these strikers beat to score during their training were those other teams broke through to hand United unsightly streaks of losses, so what was special about them?

The club might need to do some buying and selling during the January shopping window and think hard about retaining their Dutch coach thereafter.

There are already rumours that Anthony Martial and Jadon Sancho are marked for sale, but whether the former would be sold while being a favourite of a co-owner of the club is still a mystery.

Another team that should do some shopping, according to Sol Campbell, a former tactician, is Arsenal FC. The team might not have a good chance of competing at better levels if their present squad remains all they have.

‘In the end, they will have to decide by January, do they need a centre forward,’ Campbell said to Mirror lately. ‘Twenty to 25 goals in the Premier League. You know, in those big, tight games. I think it will help them.

“Is it always easy to find the right centre forward? I think eventually if they get someone like that, the right centre forward to compliment the attack – you need them to be able to play to dislodge defences.

‘Some defences understand your frequency but you bring in another player to change that frequency and other things happen. Bringing on someone really changes it up.’

Campbell wanted Napoli-based Nigerian player Victor Osimhen to sign up with Arsenal. Rumours of the player’s imminent exit following the racism he weathered at the club are yet to die down.

‘But is he going to cost too much money?’ added Campbell. ‘There’s Ivan [Toney]. I think they’re good [in other areas of the pitch].

‘Centre forward is one thing they might need to look at and see the possibilities, see what’s out there, or wait until next season.

‘But if the right person comes along, an out-and-out striker, that can unlock those tight games, knows what to do in those positions, and also keeps defence occupied to then free up other people, they should maybe look at it Christmas time—if not, definitely next season.

‘The right person will offload the pressure on the team, I think.’

Finally, Manchester United is under pressure, but who can relieve it? Many believe it is new co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
