Former world undisputed heavyweight boxer Lennox Lewis said why he thought Tyson Fury nearly lost to Francis Ngannou on October 28.

Lewis’s reason was given in reaction to a question about a statement he made on X (formerly Twitter) following the highly baffling sights displayed by the two contestants during the course of the bout.

‘So let’s talk about last night. I think both Fury and Ngannou surprised everyone, but for two different reasons,’ Lewis posted. ‘Fury looked nothing like the man in the trilogy against Wilder. Ngannou by far exceeded most ppl’s expectations. Basically, Ngannou won the night. Fury won the fight.’

During the match, Francis Ngannou struck Tyson Fury down in the third round of the ten-round fight. Moreover, Ngannou kept delivering the hardest punches throughout the faceoff while staying out of much harm from his champion opponent.

Fans and pundits continue to claim that Fury is near retirement, but John Fury, Tyson Fury’s father, suggested that people should give Ngannou the praise he deserved for performing so well against the WBC heavyweight champion instead of attacking his son’s performance.

Lewis did not think the champion had lost his edge but that he did not train well.

When asked whether Fury was declining, Lewis replied, ‘No… but I don’t think he went through a full camp either. Better not make that mistake against Usyk.’

Oleksandr Usyk will meet Fury in the ring on February 17 for the undisputed world heavyweight championship.
