Tyson Fury’s countryman, Carl Froch, has condemned Tyson Fury’s banning of talkSPORT from covering Fury’s bout with Francis Ngannou.

TalkSPORT was banned by the British heavyweight champion following a statement made by a member of the company. The statement seemed to say that Fury was the reason why the undisputed world heavyweight championship bout was being delayed.

Former boxer turned commentator and analyst Carl Froch reacted to the action in disapproval.

‘Tyson Fury’s last press conference apparently talkSPORT were banned from there,’ began Froch. ‘How can you ban an independent journalist that’s just giving an opinion.

‘So is that where we’re going, if we don’t follow the narrative of Frank Warren or Eddie Hearn, are we not allowed to have an alternative opinion and give some critique to these fighters and how long the fights are taking to get made.’

Fury’s brother, Shane Fury, had given what might be the Fury family’s view of the situation.

‘When you try and earn a living off someone, you have to be half sensible,’ Shane Fury said. ‘talkSPORT and Simon Jordan will never have anything to do with Tyson again.

‘The biggest fight in history is coming up and he might have done 100,000 views on some stupidness that he’s said, it is what it is.

‘I’m sure he will do something else, but he won’t be working with Tyson.’

In his comment, Froch said, ‘If we cant have a word or an opinion, 1 , free speech has gone, but 2, if you’re going to ban us from shows, how is that even plausible, how is that possible?

‘How can Tyson Fury, a fighter, say, “I don’t want talkSPORT” it’s ridiculous and pathetic and it shouldn’t be happening. It’s ridiculous, you shouldn’t be having a say in which journalists turn up, you’re giving Tyson Fury to much power, banning journalists from shows needs to stop.’

Simon Jordan of talkSPORT said, ‘It’s Fury-Ngannou week and I understand we – talkSPORT en masse – are persona non grata, we are not wanted.

‘All of a sudden, we are banned. And I really wanted to go to the Ngannou fight as well. I’m disappointed. Shane Fury was saying, “talKSPORT are going to be banned”. Well, fine, if that’s what you want to do. You can ban me from a fight I didn’t want to go to.

‘I’m sure they’ll weaponise it and say, “We’re going to do it when we fight Usyk as well.”‘

Reports have it that if 100% of the money to be shared after the Fury-Usyk bout is split between Usyk and Fury, Fury will get 70% according to the contract signed for their present undisputed world heavyweight title bout.
