Anthony Joshua hands Otto Wallin second career defeat
British boxer Anthony Joshua battered Sweden’s Otto Wallin and won him in the fifth round of their bout at Saudi Arabia.
Joshua had stayed patient throughout the contest, slowly destroying his once-confident opponent’s face.
Wallin was bleeding from from the nose and sporting other wounds before going to sit down during the fifth round for a short rest. It was during this mandatory rest that Wallin’s trainer directed the referee to stop the match. Wallin was in no condition to continue taking Joshua’s clinical blows.
Reacting following the stunning performance, Joshua said, ‘I respect Otto, I know what he brings to the table, not a throwback, no, another day at the office.
‘Victory by any means, when I pray, every cell and my spirit is leading to victory. It’s a treacherous business.
‘It’s like snakes and ladders, one win gets you up the ladder, one defeat puts you straight down. I was looking on the roster of heavyweights on this card, I fought Otto, Parker, I was going to fight Baby Miller. I’ve sparred Agit… I have worked hard. All that history with Otto paid off today.
‘I’m a gifted fighter, I work extremely hard. I’m searching for greatness. I’m not hopping around, Ben Davison is a really good addition to the group. They’ve helped me develop in a short space of time.’
That was not the first time Anthony Joshua beat Otto Wallin who is famous for taking Tyson Fury the distance not long ago and leaving him with a bloody face. Many were expecting Joshua’s bout with Wallin to be the most enjoyable match of all the eight at the event.
Following his loss to Oleksander Usyk, Anthony Joshua displayed a side of him many were not expecting by throwing the three belts out of the ring. During an interview, Joshua mentioned that the pressure he was subjected to by boxing fans and pundits is making him unexcited to compete.
Otto Wallin had capitalized on this during the pre-match episodes, once saying that he saw fear in Anthony Joshua’s eyes while they were facing each other at a presser.
But things changed in the final pre-fight meeting the men had, with Joshua looking so calm and coldly into Wallin’s face that fans would likely wonder what was going on.
Joshua started the fight at Saudi Arabia as a good attacker, and ended it as a winner.
According to the way things are, he might not be fighting Deontay Wilder next year, the American having lost his bout with Joseph Parker in a stunning upset.
