What Tyson Fury’s father thinks of Oleksander Usyk’s style

Tyson Fury’s father said that Oleksander Usyk’s style would defeat his son’s on February 17 if things remained as they were.

Both Usyk and Fury are looking to become the undisputed world heavyweight champion, but John Fury commented that Fury would be going in for a defeat if he retained his style.

One of the things Usyk is known for is not the power of his punches but his speed. The Ukrainian also boasts of precision and powerful footwork, While his future opponent has become used to a style that would be advantageous an opponent as him.

‘He needs a different style all-together with Usyk, he’s totally different,’ John Fury told Boxing Social. ‘If you go back to, many years ago, you can watch it on the internet, it’s Gerry Cooney-Michael Spinks and Michael Spinks is a blown-up light-heavyweight weighing just over fourteen stone at the time.

‘Gerry Cooney is six-foot-seven, eighteen stone, look what happened. These are speed-men, you just can’t have that straight-up, going forward, looking to land a bomb on these kind of fighters because guess what? They can see it coming and they will avoid it.

‘Usyk is very good, he is a good mover, he’s got a brain, he’s got good footwork and the style for Deontay Wilder and Francis Ngannou isn’t going to cut it for a man like Usyk.’

John Fury is not part of his son’s inner crew, though a former boxer himself.
