Pep Guardiola speaks about Jurgen Klopp’s decision
Pep Guardiola who many think is Jurgen Klopp’s main rival in the Premier League had few things to say about the Liverpool coach’s decision to leave Ansfield at the end of the season.
Guardiola and Klopp are actually friends, but not when it came to wrestling for trophies on the pitch. Klopp has the FA Cup, Champions League, and Carabao Cup titles since he joined Liverpool eight years ago. Klopp’s contract was to last till 2026.
Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola had few things to say on the coach’s decision to leave at the end of the season:
‘I can understand that it’s a shock for a lot of people in this moment, when you hear it for the first time, but obviously I can explain it – or at least try to explain it.
‘I love absolutely everything about this club, I love everything about the city, I love everything about our supporters, I love the team, I love the staff.
‘I love everything. But that I still take this decision shows you that I am convinced it is the one I have to take.
‘It is that I am, how can I say it, running out of energy. I have no problem now, obviously, I knew it already for longer that I will have to announce it at one point, but I am absolutely fine now.
‘I know that I cannot do the job again and again and again and again.’
Only Guardiola seems to be sure that Klopp would be back.
‘He will not admit it but he will be back.
‘This personality, this energy, will be back. Football needs personalities and managers like him.
‘I hope we can time to have dinner together.’
But things might have gotten better for Guardiola, as he jokingly the following:
‘I will sleep better. The days before playing Liverpool were almost a nightmare.
I was shocked by the news and I felt a part of Man City would lose something.
‘We cannot define our period here without him and Liverpool, it is impossible.’
