Rema, Tems makes Obama’s 2024 summer playlist
Former President of the United States Barack Obama has just unveiled his highly anticipated annual summer playlist, which showcases a diverse selection of 44 songs across different musical genres.
Only two Nigerian artists, Rema and Tems are featured alongside international artists in the latest list.
Former President Barack Obama posted the latest playlist on X.com on Monday, reflecting on the end of summer. In his post, he wrote, “With summer winding down, I wanted to share some songs that I’ve been listening to lately—and it wouldn’t be my playlist if it didn’t include an eclectic mix. I hope you find something new to listen to!”
The inclusion of Tems and Rema in the list of recognized Nigerian artists follows the previous recognition of Wizkid and Tems in 2020, Burna Boy in 2022, and Ayra Starr in 2023. This acknowledgement highlights the continued success and impact of Nigerian artists on the global music scene.
Some of the other noteworthy songs on the list are Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)”, Charli XCX’s “365”, Billie Eilish’s “Chihiro”, Bob Marley’s “Them Belly Full”, Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ‘Em”, and The Miracles’ “You’ve Really Got a Hold on Me”. Additionally, Samara Joy’s rendition of [song name] has also made it to the list.
