Congolese heavyweight boxer Martin Bakole’s claim to have beaten both Daniel Dubois and Oleksandr Usyk privately has been talked about for some time now, with some saying it was possible. Tyson Fury recently revealed his mind on the matter.

According to Martin Bakole, witnesses to his gym bout with Ukrainian heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk had rung Anthony Joshua to tell him about the defeat.

‘I said it in the Sky Sports studio which is a big platform and Usyk never came back to say I’m lying,’ Bakole argued. ‘If you watch the Usyk-Johsua weigh-in, Joshua asked him ‘how was the body shot’, watch that video closely.

‘Because there was Okolie and American boys that were in the gym when I was sparring Usyk and after that knockout they called Joshua maybe to tell him that I stopped him in the sparring..

‘First or second round, he took about one, two minutes and they start again, but from that day his coach told me not to spar, they just used some other guys, for him to recover.’

The issue of Oleksandr Usyk’s weakness to some body shots is no longer news in the boxing circle, with two high-profile incidents proving that the Ukrainian will have to get more ready before meeting WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury in December or early next year.

But refutation came from Usyk’s camp following the African’s claim, alleging that the 29-year-old lied when he said he beat Usyk twice.

The Ukrainian’s trainer, Alexander Krassyuk, announced, ‘Bakole is a great kid. He was Usyk’s best sparring partner during the last three training camps. But I heard him stopping Usyk just once, and he stopped him from knocking Bakole out.’

WBC titleholder Tyson Fury believes a different thing, as his comment on the issue revealed.

‘I can believe it,’ Fury admitted. ‘Bakole is a bit giant man who can punch and a very good fighter. Heavyweight boxing is heavyweight boxing.’

Bakole also said the following about Daniel Dubois: ‘Daniel Dubois. I sparred him twice and stopped him twice in sparring. He knows and his team knows, so I think I would stop him in the first or second round. I am looking forward to the WBA. I have the number two ranking. Why not Daniel Dubois, because he is the regular champion right now?

‘I am calling him out. I want him to be ready for me. I want that fight. I can’t wait. I wait too much. People are hiding away because they don’t want to fight me. I made the mistake of sparring them in the gym, but now there’s no more excuses.’

The African’s last fight was in 2022, and he does not seem happy about it.

Tyson Fury might not face Oleksandr Usyk soon, according to the events unfolding. Fury’s fight with Francis Ngannou during the weekend is expected to be demanding in some aspects and to leave the Brit with disqualifying injuries. Though most expect Fury to emerge victorious, they do not look forward to seeing him come out without wounds; he will have to nurse until next year.
