Boxing’s heavyweight kings Tyson Fury and Oleksander Usyk were preparing to fight on February 17 when the former reportedly got injured during a sparring session. The cut which is allegedly situated on the right-side brow will delay the bout till May 18, according to realtime updates.

WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury and WBA, WBO, and IBF heavyweight champion Oleksander Usyk will keep training and waiting till then.

Several high-profile figures said serious things about the legitimacy of the wound, following the development which was also announced by Queensbury Promotions. Now one of them, Adam Catterall, could get sued by Fury’s promoter for his comments.

Speaking in an interview with Fight Wire recently, Frank Warren said the following:

‘Adam Catterall, I can’t even believe that talkSPORT use him to talk about boxing, he spouts the biggest pile of garbage ever and it is slanderous what he has said. “No timelines on the photo, how do we know it is real?”, that is slanderous.

‘He will be getting a solicitors letter from me on Monday and he will be apologising for what he has said and for what he is saying.

‘He [Fury] is cut, he has got fifteen stitches on his eye and for that idiot to be coming out for what he comes out with is beyond a joke.’

However, some could argue that showing doubt for something is different from calling it a fabrication.

When Egis Klimas who is Oleksander Usyk’s manager spoke about Fury’s trending wound, he said something about Fury telling someone to inflict it with a frying pan. Many would wonder what was special about the talkSport pundit’s statement.

Warren went on to say, ‘I do expect it from [talkSPORT], I didn’t used to with Adam and we have done a podcast together. It’s just so disappointing and so stupid.

‘What does he think? That people are spending millions upon millions promoting fights, hundreds of thousands of pounds bringing in sparring partners, and it is not a cut? He is out there in Riyadh, does he think that his excellency and the doctors haven’t seen it? What a stupid remark to make, that tells you where he is coming from and it tells you his agenda.

‘If he doesn’t apologise for what he has said, I will personally sue him.’

talkSport is yet to reply.
