Boxing: Mike Tyson says the greatest fighter that ever lived
Two fighters, Mike Tyson and Francis Ngannou recently disclosed who they think is the greatest fighter that ever lived. Both are currently collaborating in a mentorship relationship ahead of Francis Ngannou’s bout with Heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury.
MMA champion Francis Ngannou has awed the world of combat sports by the crossover challenge, while Fury has readily accepted, after his own request for a go was rejected by Heavyweight three-belts-holder Olexandr Usyk.
Now when Francis Ngannou and Mike Tyson were asked who was their greatest fighter ever, veteran Mike Tyson thought a bit deeply about that, having been in world of boxing for a long time. He was the youngest boxer ever to win the Heavyweight title, and has not disappeared from sight since then.
He has even starred in a couple of movies, some of which are the IP Man series.
When he thought about the question to his satisfaction, the legend answered, ‘I love Roberto Duran and Muhammad Ali. Ali is the greatest fighter that ever lived, I have to go with him, yeh.’
But Ngannou had other ideas. Ngannou certainly knew of Mohammed Ali, but Ali is surpassed by one another person, in Ngannou’s opinion.
‘I love Ali too, I love his story,’ Cameroonian-French Ngannou replied in his turn. ‘I love Ali more for what he stands for, but my favourite boxer is Mike Tyson, all day long. I go with Mike Tyson.’
Oops. I bet you were not expecting that. It seems Mike Tyson might have known the younger man’s opinion before, though, since he might have told him. After all, some things happen when one is requesting the help of the person he thinks can help him achieve his dream.
But Mike Tyson would not shift from his stance. He said he still thought it was Ali.
It seems that Francis Ngannou reached his hand too high in setting up a fight with someone like Tyson Fury. Only a daring person decides to challenge masters first. Some think he is set for a memorial knockout.
The question is, what makes the coming fight between Ngannou and Fury in October 6 special? It is the fact that Ngannou is known for easily knocking out anyone if he gets an unobstructed chance. Fury on his part is highly-skilled in the art of boxing.
Fury would be very prepared to defend his belt. It would be a heated showdown.
