Tyson Fury revealed his disgust at the scarcity of matches he experienced  this year in the heavyweight division of Boxing. This revelation came as he spoke on his coming contest with former-MMA superstar, Francis Ngannou. He accused his contemporaries of not being real men.

According to Fury, ‘It has taken a guy from MMA to come and challenge me, step up to the plate and give me a challenge when no other actual so-called boxer will step up to it.’

He claimed that all the contenders in the heavyweight division put away the chance to fight him in the ring, and none of them spoke to refute it. Even co-heavyweight titleholder, Oleksandr Usyk.

Here is the statement in full:

‘Facts are facts: [Anthony] Joshua bottled it, Usyk bottled it and Andy Ruiz asked for $20m, so he bottled it too. And here’s another one – [Deontay] Wilder was asked to fight Ruiz in a final eliminator in February [for Fury’s WBC title]. Both said no so they bottled it too!

‘It took a real man on who was willing to step up to the challenge. If they’ve got something to say about it, I’m standing here. It has taken a guy from MMA to come and challenge me, step up to the plate and give me a challenge when no other actual so-called boxer will step up to it. Full credit to Ngannou.’

This was not the first time the boxing giant would praise Francis Ngannou, who seems very enthusiastic for the fight. The other time, at a mandatory press conference that must precede the match, Ngannou said Tyson Fury was not a ‘great fighter’, but ‘a great boxer’.

By this he pointed out that Tyson Fury could not win him in the octagon. So the boxing hero replied emphatically that he was going to beat Ngannou up in the octagon too. This statement of Fury’s is yet to be proved, because of his possibility of losing in the boxing ring next month.

Ngannou is a renowned puncher, whom pundits think could knock out Tyson Fury with a punch if he got a chance to punch clean. The former-MMA superstar stands to make more money from that one match than he had made in his whole career.

Fury thinks Ngannou’s challenge is the latter’s way of challenging himself.

‘This is not about Usyk or any other boxers. It’s about me and him doing combat and there is no more to it. All these boxers, they had their chances over the last nine months to do a deal with me, they didn’t so we’ve moved on and took a real man who is willing to challenge himself.’

Because he’s a s**t house. And he got beat by Daniel Dubois anyway. It’s irrelevant now. 100% he got knocked out by a body shot. He quit there. That’s a quitter for you. He’s a welterweight, Shawn Porter, but he did beat him at welterweight yeh, 75 kilos. I’ve got no interest in him at all. First stop Francis Ngannou, second stop bank.

Daniel Dubois’ team have already started the process of getting a rematch, but Tyson reveals he lost a lot of respect for the fellow champion. Usyk holds the heavyweight WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO titles.

‘Supposed to be this big god-fearing man,’ Fury voiced his disappointment. ‘Rolling up and down with a low blow and it hit him on the beltline. Come on, What do I know? I’m a world heavyweight champion, been in boxing for 15 years as a pro. I’ve won up to 22 belts. What do I know? That wasn’t a low blow. I know that.’

Fury boldly said more, ‘I thought he lost and he quit. And once you quit once, you’ll always quit, just like we saw with Dubois. He quit too, so that was two quitters fighting each other.

‘It’s tough to say somebody’s quit but Usyk quit with a body shot and rattled around the floor for five minutes and the other one quit with a jab. But the truth is the truth and that’s it. I’ve been hit full-on, right [below the belt] with the hardest punches you’ve ever seen, I didn’t roll around like that.’
Fans have been looking forward to the clash of the two heavyweight titleholders, but it seems the hindrance might be based on two things:
  • Oleksandr Usyk’s fear cloaked with asking to receive a certain percentage from the fight
  • and Tyson Fury’s over-pricing of his participation
‘If Usyk is a good little boy, he might be an option but if he isn’t, he will just be another foreign middleweight that stays out in the cold,’ Fury said to Toe2Toe. ‘I will beat him, and I won’t even look for a body shot either. I will knock him out with a chin shot if that fight ever happens. If he is a good little boy and takes a small percentage of the superstar’s money then he will get a fight.

‘If he wants big bucks. If he wants a seat at the king’s table then you’ve got to play ball with the master.’

The match between Fury and Ngannou comes up in October 28, and can be viewed by internet on TNT Sports Box Office.
