Connor Benn vs Chris Eubank Jr.: a match bigger than boxing to hold at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
Two serious foes, Connor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr., are going to meet in the ring at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for a professional boxing match.
One of them, Connor Benn, will be coming into the ring for more than a boxing match, according to his statements while talking to iFL TV. Benn alleged that the fellow pound-for-pounder tried to blackmail him and make him lose £1m.
Speaking to his male interviewer, Benn said, ‘You’ve got to understand that it’s now personal; do you know what I mean? Before, it was just business; it’s become very personal.
‘The way he conducted himself [after the failed drugs test], the way he was, the way he lied, the way he blackmailed me for £1 million, it don’t sit right with me.
‘I’m not one for rubbing salts into peoples’ wounds, I never kick a man when he is down, as bad as I was. For me, it’s like cool, I see your make up, I know who you are, no problem. I’m not surprised that his Dad isn’t in his corner.’
The duo’s fathers were twice opponents in the ring in the 90s, with Eubank Jr.’s father winning the first bout and the second match ending in a draw.
Chris Eubank Jr. is from the middleweight division, while Benn is a welterweight. Spectators will see whether Benn’s alleged anger will bring him a win or set him up for a defeat.
On the heavyweight scene, Tyson Fury announced he was depressed following the recent bout between him and Francis Ngnannou but added that he has recovered.
‘Every fight I have two weeks post-fight depression, and I’m just about getting over that now,’ said Fury. ‘Just about getting back to reality… I know it’s gonna go after about two weeks. I’m used to it. The highs and lows of it all. With every high there’s an even bigger low.’
Furthermore, the WBC heavyweight champion added that what happened between him and Ngannou was for the entertainment of spectators. There were actually big superstars from across several disciplines at the venue of the showdown, notable of which was Al Nassr’s Cristiano Ronaldo.
‘It was an unbelievable event, everyone was there, all the big stars,’ Fury recalled. ‘Listen, it happened all because of me, everyone gets to be entertained by The Gypsy King, and here we go again, I’m rolling it out again for you all.
‘Who called for this fight? Who called for Usyk versus Fury? Who called for the undisputed? Who wants this fight? And now the fans are getting it, I don’t want to hear any complaints. No complaining.
‘When this fight wasn’t happening it seemed that everybody was happier than when it got signed. Now I don’t know why that is, but now you’ve got what you want, enjoy it.”
‘‘It won’t happen, I was scared, I was running away’ – what’s happening now then? I’m about to make another hundred million.’
Fans want an undisputed heavyweight champion. That is why they will be watching this match.
