Conor Benn dumps Eubank Jr fight, eyes Gervonta Davis

Conor Benn announced he had waved goodbye to his pursuit of having a bout with Chris Eubank Jr, adding that Gervonta Davis now has his ‘full focus’.

Benn and Eubank Jr were preparing to meet in the ring before a doping test result disqualified Benn in 2022. The Brit has been struggling since then to be accepted once again by the British Boxing Board of Control, and was disallowed from having a professional boxing competition in the UK.

Having beaten Pete Dobson this past weekend by unanimous decision in a 12-round bout at Las Vegas, Benn is looking for a new opponent who is not Chris Eubank Jr.

The judges’ scorecards were 119-109, 118-110, and 118-110 in Benn’s favour, so he has registered a sizeable comeback in the sight of many.

Benn posted on X:

‘I’m bored of the Eubank name you lost your pen on enough occasions now. #bagfumbled. My full focus is on the munchkin @Gervontaa.’

However, his ambition to get in the ring with Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis might be hindered due to the gap between their weight classes. WBA lightweight champion Davis has never faced someone from higher than the light welterweight level, while Benn has fought in the catchweight division.

Noteworthy is the fact that though multi-weight champion Davis fights at a lower weight class, Davis might get the higher pay if the match ever gets fixed.

Currently, Benn is still trying to get into the good side of the British Boxing Board of Control and thereby get back his license to compete in the UK. But till then, he will likely confine his competitions to the USA and other places.
