December 23: Deontay Wilder or Anthony Joshua to get the main card

Former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder and past WBA, WBO, and IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua are the two among whom one will be selected to feature in the main card of a coming event. They would be fighting different opponents.

The two recent world heavyweight champions are going to feature at a boxing event coming up on December 23 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Deontay Wilder believes he should be the person taking the main slot, according to his statement in an interview with 78SportsTv. The American boxer who believes he is being ducked by Joshua and others in the heavyweight division mentioned that the executives overseeing the event should flip a coin instead if they do not know another way to choose a main card without making one of them feel bad.

Wilder’s last boxing engagement was held in 2022 at an event that ended in the first round after he stopped his opponent. Since then, he has remained highly rated on the WBC’s heavyweight list but has no opponents to face. While speaking to 78SportsTv, Deontay Wilder repeated that Anthony Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, was wrongly accusing him of making the expected bout between him and Joshua not materialise.

Though Wilder and Joshua are still expected to meet in a contest, Wilder will be facing Joseph Parker in December, while Otto Wallin will be Joshua’s opponent. Wilder said during the phone-call interview that he was ready for a fight before the Saudis contacted him, since he liked being ready instead of getting ready.

Two fights that were taking a long time to get set up seem to have been made a likely reality by the Saudis, following their behind-the-scenes efforts in getting Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk to sign a deal and their accomplishments in the case of Joshua and Wilder.

Concerning the fights to be held on December 23, Wilder said, ‘The only thing I’m not certain of is whether I’m gonna be the main event or Joshua gonna be the main event. I requested them to do a flip of a coin. Let’s see what happens.

‘I feel I should be main event because of what I carry. People wanna see knockouts. We know for sure if you wanna see that, who the man to get? I always say women lie, men lie, but numbers do not lie … They be wanting the knockout king, a body on that canvas shaking and all that kind of s**t.’

How this matter will be settled is still unknown.
