Eddie Hearn gives deeper insight on time of Fury-Usyk fight, names likely date
Star promoter Eddie Hearn has given a definite possible time for the highly-expected boxing match between Tyson Fury and Olexander Usyk.
The series of negotiations towards getting the two fighters to sign a fight contract has officially ended in a remarkable success, though there is scepticism on whether the event will actually hold.
Boxing enthusiasts are prepared to see this heavyweight division have one champion since the days of Lennox Lewis. There have been endless debates on why the fight was not becoming a reality, with the most popular view being that Tyson Fury was requesting more pay than was respectable.
A recent announcement disclosed that the fight will become a reality either in December or early next year. Though there is substantial doubt that the heavyweight showdown will materialise, Eddie Hearn has tried to pour a measure of cold water on all contrary assumptions.
‘We don’t know if Fury-Usyk is going December 23, we’re being told it is, but they’ll see what happens next week [in the Ngannou fight],’ Eddie Hearn said in an interview.
‘Does that mean we move into January [for the Chris Eubank Jr – Conor Benn fight]. We are going to move forward with that fight most likely in Britain, whether that’s the 23rd or the first couple of weeks in January, this week we want to get that fight moving and locked in.
‘It’s time now, it’s the biggest fight in Britain and we want to get it over the line.’
Before this fight takes place, Tyson Fury will have to be physically fit for it since he will be coming from the bout with Francis Ngannou, which happens on the 28th of this month. This fight is the most famous combat event of the time, not only because the boxer many think is the best of the era is going to fight, but also because his amateur opponent is a known deadly puncher.
If Fury is found fit to fight in December, then the much-awaited undisputed bout might go down in December.
