Famous coach calls Tyson Fury’s injury ‘blessing in disguise’
A famous coach said Tyson Fury’s eye injury was actually a blessing in disguise and explained himself.
WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury got wounded on the eye ahead of his undisputed world heavyweight title bout with Oleksander Usyk who holds the WBA, WBO, and IBF heavyweight titles.
The fight’s date was therefore shifted from February 17 to May 18 to give Fury time to heal properly.
Fury’s camp alleged that the wound came from a sparring session with Agron Smakici, but many fans doubt the explanation.
While some fans think that Fury does not want to face Usyk, Dom Ingle who is a well-known coach said that Fury can still make good use of the more time he has to train.
The trainer called the wound a blessing in disguise because he believed that the WBC heavyweight champion can train more within the extra days.
While speaking to Boxing King Media, Ingles said:
‘At this stage looking at him now, I would say it’s probably a blessing in disguise because you know there have been a few things going off in camp.
‘We’ve heard rumours about Tyson getting dropped and not having his own way with sparring patterns. Looking at that sparring session it didn’t look particularly great so the longer Tyson trains, the more of an advantage it is to him.’
There is possibility that a fighter who gets such time after training hard for weeks could decide to give himself a one-week rest which could cause a problem.
Because of this, Ingles added the following later:
‘But that’s only if he carries on from this point onward and keeps his momentum, which in my experience very, very few fighters can do mentally.
‘They want a week off then to get back into it, then that week turns into a week and a half, a week and three quarters. Then it gets difficult.’
Usyk said recently that the extra time will be beneficial.
