Floyd Mayweather reveals his hardest opponent ever, while Deontay Wilder gets challenged by a former unified champion

Anthony Joshua’s idol, Floyd Mayweather has revealed the fighter who gave him the hardest time in his 50-fight undefeated career campaign. On the other hand, Deontay Wilder might have to disprove the claims of a heavyweight challenger who was once a three-belt holder.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is an American boxing promoter and former professional boxer. He competed between 1996 and 2017 and retired with an undefeated record. Mayweather won fifteen major world championships in various weight divisions, ranging from super featherweight to light middleweight.

He was born on February 24, 1977, in Grand Rapids, MI, and stands at a height of 5’8. Mayweather is known for his orthodox stance and his weight of 148 Ibs. His career ended exactly on August 26, 2017.

The veteran’s toughest opponent is a subject of debate among many boxing enthusiasts. Some of his hardest fights include were being called his hardest ever till he made his most recent statement on the matter.

Mayweather faced Shane Mosley on May 1, 2010, in a highly anticipated bout. Mosley proved to be a formidable opponent, but Mayweather ultimately emerged victorious. He fought Miguel Cotto on May 5, 2012. Cotto’s relentless pressure and especially his power made it a tough one for Mayweather, but he managed to secure a victory.

Before those was Emanuel Auguatus whom he faced on October 21, 2000. Augustus, was known for his unorthodox style, provided a unique challenge for the legend. Mayweather did not consider all of these his hardest opponent, rather he said it was Filipino Manny Pacquiao.

‘The best fighter I ever fought probably was Manny Pacquiao,’ recalled Floy Mayweather. ‘It’s because of his movement. He’s a hell of a fighter and I can see why he won so many fights and I can see why he’s going down as a Hall of Famer. It’s just certain moves he makes.’

Manny Pacquiao is a former professional boxer and a Filipino politician. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest professional boxers of all time.

Nicknamed ‘PacMan’, Pacquiao also competed in multiple weight divisions, including welterweight, lightweight and featherweight. He has an amateur record of 60-4 and a professional record of 62-8-2, with 39 wins by knockout. Outside of boxing, Pacquiao has also served as a Senator of the Philippines from 2016 to present. He has been coached by Freddie Roach until 2018, and currently, his coach is Buboy Fernandez.

The duo’s bout holds the all-time record for the highest amount of money earned. Needless to say, Floyd Mayweather won the hard way.

 

Deontay Wilder gets challenged by former heavyweight champion

After the falling apart of negotiations intended to bring about a boxing tango featurung Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder, Wilder’s team announced that the search for another opponent was in progress. But they needed not trouble themselves a lot, seeing that there is a former champion eager to fight with the recent WBC heavyweight champion.

This challenger is none other than Andy Ruiz, the former unified heavyweight champion who dethroned Anthony Joshua in the past. Ruiz would later be beaten by Anthony Joshua to retake his unified title, which has now been lost to Olexandr Usyk, who won Joshua in two straight matches.

Ruiz believes the risk of fighting a professional boxer whose only known match is undefeated Tyson Fury would be worth it.

‘Come on, you got my number,’ Ruiz called out to Wilder. ‘Call me, let’s make it happen, bro. I know you’re a little scared, bro. If he’s so confident he’s going to knock me down and it’s an easy fight let’s make it happen. I’m here to take risks. I’m not here to find a tune-up fight I just want to fight you.’

Whether in an attempt to sound funny or not, Ruiz also said he had a dream that proved he would beat Deontay Wilder.

‘I had a dream. JC told me I was going to knock you out. I’m not saying what round but I won. God gave me a dream that I fucking beat his ass, knocked him out and I won the fight.’
