Francis Ngannou makes bizarre request relating to Tyson Fury and Oleksander Usyk
Cameroonian professional boxer Francis Ngannou made a surprising request recently when asked whether he wanted to fight the winner of the undisputed world heavyweight bout between Tyson Fury and Oleksander Usyk.
The Cameroonian nearly beat WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury in their match last year which was Ngannou’s debut boxing faceoff. Now Ngannou awaits March 8 to face another Brit, Anthony Joshua, in the ring.
Ahead of the undisputed heavyweight bout coming up on February 17, Ngannou has been offered to fight the winner of the contest. His reply bordered on the very surprising.
Formerly, the African announced that he was not going to face another fighter in the ring till after a rematch with Tyson Fury, though he later changed his mind and signed a contract with Joshua.
Now he is back to looking for Fury.
‘I’m not looking for the winner, I’m looking for Tyson,’ he said. ‘Just give me that fight. I don’t give a sh*t about the winner of Tyson and Usyk. Win or lose, I want Tyson.’
However, Ngannou must get past Joshua first. Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn sounded excited while speaking to Ariel Helwani at MMA Hour about the pro fight.
‘I feel like he’s earned that shot – or certainly to continue at that level. And I fancy the fight,’ said Hearn.
‘You’ve heard me say before, I really believe AJ knocks him out. But he’s a dangerous fight. I know that this guy’s a big, big lump that can really punch, and I think he has no fear, which makes him dangerous.
‘But I just feel like AJ’s in a great place, and I expect him to pick him apart and knock him out.’
The event will be held at Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
