A Hall of Famer gave an ‘honest’ view of Tyson Fury’s ability to deal with blows lately in light of the WBC heavyweight champion’s most recent performance. Fury looked nearly toothless against a boxing debutant.

Tyson Fury’s last battle was a bad sight to both fans of boxing and combat sports, who called him the boxing king of the ring. Some assume that Fury disgraced the boxing circle, especially the heavyweight division, while welcoming former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou into the world of professional boxing.

During the ten-round bout, which was attended by a good number of celebrities, Ngannou struck down his opponent in the third round to the shock of many and kept the champion on his toes to the point that it is still being said he was the winner. Tyson Fury’s win-by-split decision is still seen as controversial.

One of the things that made this bout look like the last ones Tyson Fury had was his being struck down. Deontay Wilder notably landed him on the floor several times during the course of their trilogy, but Tyson Fury remarkably stood up each time. This seems to point at a weakness the champion has that many do not see.

Speaking to Pro Boxing Fans, Hall of Famer Barry McGuigan brought this weakness to blows on the chin into the spotlight, saying the heavyweight’s ability to take bangs on the chin was quite unimpressive.

‘Let’s be honest, Tyson has been on the floor a lot of times, so he hasn’t got the greatest chin,’ argued the retired boxer.

But what matters now is how Fury is going to perform against lineal heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk on February 17.

‘He deserved to win [the Ngannou fight], but it wasn’t impressive,’ continued McGuigan. ‘He let himself down with that performance, and so you take that in relation to Usyk, and you would have always made him favourite in that fight but less so after that. It’s very much, and even money fight.’

There is still expected to be a rematch between Fury and Ngannou, and the latter has announced he will fight no other boxer until they have had a rematch.

As Tyson Fury prepares to prove he is who he is expected to be, Ngannou might face the octagon for as long as it takes for a rematch between him and Fury to be a reality.
