Former professional boxer John Fury, the father of WBC heavyweight Tyson Fury, said recently that people were talking rubbish about the professional bout between his son and Francis Ngannou on October 28.

In up to two separate interviews, the veteran said that his son was still the same person he was, but that Francis Ngannou was really good at boxing.

There are doubts that the British titleholder can beat Ukrainian world champion Oleksandr Usyk in the undisputed world heavyweight title contest, which is scheduled for February. It was mostly believed that Tyson Fury would emerge the victor in the undisputed fight; however, expectations became a bit more diversified following Tyson Fury’s being knocked down while fighting boxing debutant Francis Ngannou on October 28.

John Fury said that those with low expectations will be disappointed.

‘It was a good victory and all I can say is that people are talking rubbish. My son is still the champion of the world and the best heavyweight by a country mile and if they don’t believe it then that’s up to them,’ John Fury said. ‘You watch when he gets Usyk, he’ll reign supreme and he’ll stop Usyk.’

One of the things that surprised spectators of the match was that Tyson Fury’s punches during the match were less harmful than Francis Ngannou’s. Moreover, the Cameroonian former UFC heavyweight champion stayed out of trouble for a longer time during the match and fought well through the ten rounds instead of being knocked out during the fifth round as was mostly predicted.

John Fury said, ‘You know what I’m amazed at, is how little these so called boxing experts actually know about the job. Ngannou is built like a tree, 19 stone of solid muscle and the kid can fight.

‘It’s not how bad they should look at Tyson, Tyson was okay, it’s how good the other kid was as well. Give Ngannou credit, he brought the action and he’s a man mountain, Tyson’s a boxer.

‘That kid has been kicked in the face, nutted in the face, elbowed in the face, he’s not going to be bothered about a boxing glove is he? Ngannou was as tough as nails, big strong man.

‘I think Tyson did very well, but the game plan could have been better, a lot of things could have been better, but I know my son and he can get it right next time can’t he? He got the win and that’s what it’s about.’

Ngannou wants a rematch with Fury but might wait all through next year to get it.
