Oleksandr Usyk to join Ukrainian football club

World heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk revealed when he would retire and that playing for a football club was the next thing on his agenda.

The former cruiserweight titleholder, who is now the WBA, WBO, and IBF heavyweight champion, unveiled this while speaking to ESNEWS lately. Though he did not name the location and club he wanted to play for, it is no longer news that Oleksandr Usyk signed up with a Ukrainian club called FC Polissya Zhytomyr in 2022.

In keeping with his promise after playing a friendly for the club, Usyk joined the team when they left the second tier of the Ukrainian Premier League. He, however, had not been serving the club on the pitch due to his boxing engagements and other activities connected with his career and press conference obligations.

Following his signup with the club, they released a statement: ‘The president of the club, Hennadiy Butkevich, and Oleksandr Usyk concluded an official agreement on football cooperation for one year. Usyk will perform under number 17. Expect other details of the contract later.’

Usyk is presently training in Spain ahead of what many think will be the most important bout of his career yet, since he will meet WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury in February, according to the latest reports. Having been known to be weak to bodyshots, with several pieces of evidence suggesting he might suffer in Fury’s hands during their undisputed world heavyweight title bout, the European has a great mountain to climb next year.

However, what matters is what Usyk believes is going into the ring.

‘I win [against Fury], and then I go and play football,’ said Usyk while talking to ESNews. ‘I have contract signed with the number 1 football team [in Ukraine].’

The president of Polissya once said about the champion, ‘I respect and am proud of this man. His attitude to training is a great example for the Polissia team.’

On the other hand, Tyson Fury is going to get 70% of all the cash the two will share after the bout. Pundit Carl Froch revealed that Tyson Fury’s reason for delaying the undisputed bout for so long was because of how much he wanted to gain. Froch said this while discussing why the delay was going on in the past and his text messaging with Tyson Fury.

‘Listen, it’s about the money.” It’s the biggest fight in heavyweight boxing,” that’s what he said to me,’ said Froch concerning Fury. ‘I said, “You’re going to be getting paid more for this fight than any other fight you would’ve taken? A bigger fight than Oleksandr Usyk?” He was like, “Yeah, it’s a bigger fight; I’m getting paid more than I would’ve got.” ‘

Usyk had made it known that he himself did not care about the money. He cared only about beating Tyson Fury and winning the four belts thereby.
