What Francis Ngannou thinks of Tyson Fury cheating rumours
Francis Ngannou has shed more light on why he said he thought Tyson Fury cheated with his gloves.
WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury is facing accusations from his next opponent, Francis Ngannou, about their widely advertised boxing bout set to take place on the 28th of this month. Undefeated champion Tyson Fury beat Deontay Wilder years ago to win the title after a short time in the claws of severe bipolar disorder, but there are controversies surrounding his trilogy fight with Deontay Wilder that boxing fans would be much happier to forget.
Following his bout with the American, the Brit was accused of inserting metal components into his gloves by Deontay Wilder, a claim that was dismissed but had remained in the minds of boxing enthusiasts. When asked why he had not reported the situation to the officials when he first noticed it, Deontay Wilder said that the money he earned from being punched with those gloves would not have come if he had told on Fury, and thereby stopped the match.
Later down the road, Derek Chisora also said he believed that Tyson Fury cheated in their contest, which also saw Derek Chisora lose. Deontay Wilder had won Tyson Fury in their first bout and lost in the last two, but is still pointing out that Fury had cheated to win.
When amateur boxer Francis Ngannou found himself in line for a fight with the talented boxer, he raised the same matter, calling on officials to make sure Tyson Fury’s gloves were padded as his would be padded, or they should allow them to go barefist.
Recently, while speaking on his past statement, Ngannou tried to clarify his stand on whether the boxer cheated or not.
‘I do not believe [that Tyson Fury cheats] – I have heard,’ the Cameroonian said. ‘[There are] a lot of complaints about his gloves from people that he has fought. So I raised that issue just to double-check.’
Among what he said at first was, ‘He’s very tricky with his glove. I think he cheats. We are talking about it with the team, and they’re like, ‘Oh, there’s the UK commission with the gloves. I’m like, ‘Bro, we’re going to get there, we need every glove to be checked.’
‘You don’t tell me about this commission, ‘Oh, the gloves get to be checked. If you want us to fight bare hands, bare-knuckle, let’s go bare-knuckle. But don’t give me 10-ounce gloves and wear 8-ounce or 6-ounce gloves because he has no protection. No.’
He did add, ‘But his opponent complains about his gloves. It might not be [true], but we have to check that. … I think we have nothing to lose by double-checking, because it’s been more than once that people talk about his gloves, and even his opponents.’
‘In the boxing world, you have to worry about everything. If somebody says something in boxing, you better double-check.’
Tyson Fury is said to have signed a fight contract with lineal heavyweight champion, Ukraine’s Tyson Fury. He has to heal the wounds he would get from fighting Ngannou, though.
