Zheilei Zhang scoffs at Tyson Fury amid new discussions
All the citizens of the professional boxing jungle who saw how their supposed king was dropped by a newbie might not all be famous, but it is clear that Tyson Fury is not as scary as before. Many have spoken with disgust, including China’s dreadful heavyweight, Zheilei Zhang.
In his statement to freebets.com, the 40-year-old mocked 35-year-old WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, saying the once-lofty lineal king who was considered the real king could not beat anybody among the contemporary great heavyweight boxers. He went ahead to name them.
Based on the performance over the weekend, I don’t think Tyson Fury can beat anybody. Definitely not Usyk, not me, not Joshua, he’s not right.
Zhang once challenged Tyson Fury but was unable to land a contract with the Brit, who had not contested in professional boxing for long before his highly-rewatched match with Cameroon’s Francis Ngannou.
Ngannou put up a performance that shocked most boxing fans and made them wonder whether Tyson Fury had lost his edge or whether Francis Ngannou was a more powerful fighter.
Zheilei Zhang favoured the former reason in his statement while saying how he felt at the end of the much-expected bout. It would not be out of place to say that Zhang implied that the three people he named were better suited to have welcomed Ngannou into the heavyweight division of boxing than Tyson Fury.
Journalists said the five opponents, Francis Ngannou, will possibly fight next, and Zheilei Zhang was named among them. Other options were former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder, former IBF, WBO, and WBA heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, Oleksandr Usyk, and Tyson Fury, with whom most expect him to have a rematch.
There are struggles between Anthony Joshua’s group and Deontay Wilder’s to get Francis Ngannou as the next opponent for their men, but Ngannou has not said he is going to fight any of them yet. Zheilei Zhang might win a contract with Ngannou without trying too hard if he continues speaking like that.
But Zhang himself is a force to be reckoned with after beating seemingly unbeatable Joe Joyce twice recently. The Chinaman is arguably among the avoided boxers in the heavyweight division and has earned a fight with the suddenly-famous newbie.
Presently, Francis Ngannou is keeping fit and posting at his social media outlets as his team continues to receive offers both disclosed and undisclosed.
Both Zhang and Ngannou need an opponent and could try to make an agreement before December, while Tyson Fury, who is recovering from injuries he got from his recent bout, will be warming up to face Usyk as soon as March.
