Jürgen Klopp suggests ‘next-generation stand-out’ gaffer to Liverpool
German gaffer and Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp who leaves at the end of the season suggested a next-generation coach who now works in the Bundesliga to The Merseyside Reds.
Klopp mentioned while speaking that Xabi Alonso who once played for Liverpool and now coaches at Leverkusen is the right man to take his place.
Alonso joined the German club while they were yet at the bottom of the league. But the team is now en route to lifting three trophies, plus Leverkusen handed Bayern Munich a cold defeat (3–0) recently.
Klopp said the following about Alonso and his strong team:
‘How quickly his team is that well-tuned, that impresses me.
‘For the time it’s taken, he’s put his proper stamp on it.
‘Nobody knows if that’s always the way he wants to play or if it’s the way this team specifically plays. He’s not long enough in the business to tell, but obviously the coaching part is exceptional. That’s clear.
‘He’s a former world-class player, obviously from a coaching family as well, which helps a little bit, he was like a coach already when he was playing.
‘The football he’s playing, the teams he sets up, the transfers he did, it was all absolutely exceptional.’
Though many could say there are other coaches who can do better than Alonso among the next-generation gaffers, Klopp mentioned that the boss was the best he had seen in that division.
‘Xabi is doing an incredible job.
‘If there were not the rumours around, that’s completely independent, if you had asked me eight weeks ago about Xabi Alonso, I would have gone “Oh my God”.
‘The dinosaurs if you want, Ancelotti, Mourinho, Guardiola, maybe me, we will not do it – OK maybe Mourinho – but all the rest of us will not do it for the next 20 years.
‘The next generation is already there and I would say Xabi is the stand-out in that department.’
There is a possibility that the bigger people at Liverpool would listen to Klopp, especially because of the progress he is making.
