Top Rank president breaks silence on Tyson Fury versus Oleksandr Usyk
Tyson Fury’s co-promoter Todd duBoef disclosed his thoughts following Tyson Fury’s disgrace on October 28 while competing with boxing debutant Francis Ngannou and his expectations during Fury’s contest with Ukraine’s Oleksandr Usyk.
Though Tyson Fury was dropped by a left hook in the third round on October 28, DuBoef said the Brit will do well against Usyk.
‘The heavy lifting’s done relatively. The heavy lifting of getting people to agree is done,’ said duBoef. ‘I haven’t felt any of the parties involved, that were ready to do this in December, going in a different direction other than going forward.
‘Now we’re just trying to finetune some of this, the date and everything like that. I think there’s a promise, there’s a glimmer of hope out there, a big glimmer, that this will hopefully come to fruition.
‘I think in the coming weeks, it might not be weeks even, days, we should be seeing something that solidifies everything.’
Going further, he said, ‘I think he was clear after the fight, saying, ‘Hey, this is all on me; I did what I did.’ I don’t think he showed his full arsenal and, when he’s razor sharp and he’s razor focused, what he’s capable of doing, and I think, on the other hand, Francis was able to show what he was able to do when people had such low expectations.
‘I think next time you see Tyson Fury he’s going to be razor, razor sharp.’
Meanwhile some including Naseem Hamed (called Price Naz) think that Tyson Fury should not to compete with Usyk this year: ‘Me personally, I think if Tyson takes this fight on December 23rd that would be a big mistake. He should take his time, get into training camp, concentrate and focus the biggest fight on his life cause it’s undisputed.’
If Tyson Fury did what Hamed suggested, he would have chosen the best-known option.
