Part of the side attractions during the match was Brentford fans chanting to coach Erik Ten Hag, ‘You’re getting sacked in the morning.’

Coach Erik Ten Hag did not hide his happiness at the end. The coach’s been under fire following the bad results his boys have been submitting, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s recent statement seemed to say what many have started to think. Ibrahimovic criticised the coach’s results, also pointing out the bad relationship between the Dutchman and Jadon Sancho.

Ibrahimovic hinted that Erik Ten Hag was not used to working with big players, saying that Manchester United could not be compared to Ajax where Ten Hag came from.

Among the players that communicated with the public following the match was Manchester United captain Fernandes. His statement revealed the state of things among the players.

‘This is Manchester United,’ Fernandes said. ‘Even if you win 10 games in a row and lose one, it’s a crisis straight away. We are not having the results and points we want to have but it’s about getting the focus back after the international break.’

Some would agree that he was right. Even Manchester United’s own fans have been a little unfriendly to their players.

While speaking for himself, the saviour of the day, Scott McTominay, was very humble.

‘That might be one of my favourite moments on a football pitch,’ he said. ‘Two goals at the death was icnredible, but I am just happy to be able to contribute and show people that I can do it. Massive.

‘Everyone knows we are in a difficult period at the minute, but we have fighters in the group that want to keep going right until the end. It could have been anyone on that pitch scoring the two goals. Really pleased and hopefully we can build on that from here.

‘No nerves. Just never give up no matter the situation. At this football club it is demanded that you never throw the towel in, for me I have been brought up here since I was five, I know that better than anyone.’

It seems Erik Ten Hag is safe from volleys of insults and other mean reactions for the time being, but he has to maintain the new situation or risk a worse backlash than the clearly abating one.
