Man Utd ex-players vocalize their views on club’s condition

Two Manchester United players spoke recently on the club’s condition as win drought continues, amid rumours that Coach Erik Ten Hag is on the verge of being relieved of his duties.

One of these players was former forward Wayne Rooney who now coaches Birmingham.

Rooney strongly alleged that the players were giving coach Erik Ten Hag less than they could offer.

Whether that was an accusation or an encouragement to the players might be subject to individual perception.

Speaking on the hot backlash Ten Hag was weathering, Rooney stated, ‘That’s the job. That’s part of the job and we all know that when we take jobs, whatever job that is.

‘I know coming here [Birmingham], there’s a lot of pressure and I’m sure Ten Hag knows that at Manchester United.

‘I think it’s not going as well as they would liked or would have hoped but I think the players need to take some responsibility as well.

‘I know some of the players in there and they’re not performing to the levels I know they can.

‘Ultimately, it starts and ends with the manager and that’s part of being a manager.

‘He will get the critics, of course, after the last few weeks but I think the players can do a lot more than what they’re doing for him.’

Next was former player Gary Neville who is presently a pundit and comments prolifically about activities related to Manchester United.

Neville reacted to rumours of Erik Ten Hag’s impending sack, saying it was unlikely for several passable reasons.

‘I don’t think they will sack him at all. Partly because he shouldn’t be sacked, partly because they believe in him and partly because he did a good job last season.

‘It won’t be on the table for discussion. If a new manager comes in, they have to pay off Ten Hag’s coaching staff, and go and spend a load more money on a new manager’s players.

‘They have already had the Ralf Rangnick experiment of five months interim. He isn’t going anywhere and he shouldn’t be going anywhere.

‘Of course, he will come under pressure if results continue as they are but that won’t come from the ownership this season.

‘We keep changing managers but they can’t all be bad managers when they come to Manchester United.

‘They have been, and are good managers with really good reputations but haven’t been able to succeed.

‘I don’t think they will fire the bullet this season. I think he will be given time but this will be deemed as a bad period because some of the performances have been awful.

‘When he has a fully fit squad and his players back, then we can judge him.

‘He has a lot of injuries and that is impacting the style of play.

‘He can’t play out from the back, he hasn’t been able to play through midfield without Casemiro. It is a little bit all at sea.’

Dislike for Ten Hag is not only coming from fans, as reports have it that even Old Trafford’s dressing room harbours a level of of unfriendliness for the man, following his alleged favouritism.
