Mauricio Pochettino on Raheem Sterling: ‘I told him David Beckham is shaking because you are going to get his record’
Chelsea’s Coach Mauricio Pochettino revealed what he said to Raheem Sterling concerning the player’s present way of scoring with free kicks. The Argentine tactician allegedly told Sterling that David Beckham is afraid of losing his record to him.
Sterling has scored two goals in consecutive matches recently through free kicks.
Following Chelsea’s most recent match with Preston North End which ended in a 4-0 win for Chelsea, Pochettino said the following about Sterling who scored with a free kick during the match:
‘I told him [Sterling] after game David Beckham is shaking because you are going to get his record!
‘That is the quality. You can practice all day every day, but after it is about taking the free-kick and scoring. We practice but it is not special practice for him.
‘That is about his quality. He scored today and against Newcastle. It’s about the capacity to believe and of course his quality.’
First to score during the contest was Albania’s Armando Broja who later commented on the match and the future one with Fulham.
‘We’re pleased to get the win and no matter what competition we play in, we want to be competing for trophies,’ said Broja.
‘Winning against Preston in the FA Cup is the first challenge done and now we can go into the next game [Carabao Cup semi-final v Middlesbrough] with confidence and the same mindset – to try and win the game.
‘Then we have an important game in the league against Fulham, so it’s an exciting time for us right now and it’s important we keep this run of form going.’
