Manchester United’s senior tactician Erik Ten Hag said that the club is still talking with Cameroon concerning Andre Onana.

The Cameroonian goalkeeper was called up by his country ahead of their AFCON campaign. Something that will deny Manchester United of what seems to be their only best goalkeeper option right now.

Speaking at an interview to the club’s press, Erik Ten Hag said the following concerning what the Reds are doing about retaining the keeper during the AFCON:

‘So, we’re talking with Cameroon Federation.

‘It was an issue during the talks with Andre when he came in here, and it’s constructive, so we will see.

‘I don’t know yet [if he will be with us for the Tottenham game on 14 January] but he will be there for the game against Wigan.’

It started becoming evident last year that United needed another goalkeeper. Onana and his team mate Harry Maguire were made fun of and spoken against by many Manchester United fans following their disastrous performances.

However, Maguire went ahead to win a personal award in football the same year, while the duo’s exploits in one of the home matches will always stay in the Reds’ best archives.

It is yet unclear whether Onana will be leaving United as one of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s way of bettering the club, but the keeper was inspiring to some children during the Christmas season.

He visited their football training session, adviced them and gave out goalkeeping gloves.

Speaking later, the African said the following to United’s press:

‘It’s great to be here with the children, because a couple of years ago I was like them.

‘We are in Old Trafford, the big stadium is just around [the corner], I think it’s an extra motivation for them.

‘There are so many great children with a lot talent. Giving them some advice is always nice, helping people is one of the best things in life.

‘Looking at how they move, make saves and build up from the back and me helping them – it’s something good, and I’m very happy.

‘I think I have to give something back, because a lot of people helped me to become who I am today, so I have to be grateful and help others.’

What the Reds and Cameroon decide will be available on Manchester United’s website.
