Deontay Wilder shocks fans by saying last time he trained

The former WBC heavyweight champion revealed he had not trained for a long time ahead of his coming bout with Joseph Parker on December 23.

While talking to 78SportsTV, Wilder, whose last two matches ended in respectable victories, implied he had been keeping fit but likely took a break before having to face Parker.

‘I been ready, although I haven’t been training for probably a month or whatever,’ said Deontay Wilder during the phone-call interview. ‘But you gotta look at the several months that I was training and fights was falling through and we didn’t get what we wanted so my body has been through all types of training camps that prepare me for this particular moment.’

During the lengthy chat, the ex-champion disclosed that he believed in staying ready instead of getting ready and that he was as ready as possible for the contest.

‘So if you can’t rise to the call of duty at short notice you’re going to miss out,’ Wilder later told the 78SportsTV interviewer. ‘And I don’t want to miss out on any opportunity because it’s already easy for me to miss out on those because of what I’ve been doing.

‘I’d be unified champion already if these guys gave me the opportunity but none of the guys ever want to give me that opportunity.’

If Deontay Wilder beats Parker as expected, then he might go forward with his efforts to go in next with former WBA, WBO, and IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.
