Wilder did not seem sad for losing to Joseph Parker on December 23, to the surprise of Paulie Malignaggi.

In the course of discussing his observation during and after the bout, Malignaggi said the following to Pro Boxing Fans:

‘Wilder looked old. I feel like he didn’t have a lot of desire. He’s 38-years old. It seemed like inactivity also made a big difference.

‘I just need to see Wilder hungry. I feel like he never really went for it. It seemed like he’s kind of past it. He’s got a lot going on in his life, he’s been very successful.

‘He sounded happy and satisfied after the defeat, he didn’t even sound dejected or that it bothered him.

‘This kind of thing happens. You get a little older and you have other things going on in your life and you’re just not as competitive anymore.’

A bout between Wilder and Anthony Joshua is now hard to get because of the the defeat. Both former world champions would have fought in the ring long ago if the desire of most boxing fans had been granted.

Wilder has done nothing to indicate he was sad about the defeat, many think, stirring up thoughts about his intentions. The American did promise on Instagram just after the match that he would return, but who knows when and how?
