However, Chelsea formerly lost by 1-0 to the Boros at Riverside — Middlesbrough’s home, before beaten them at Stamford Bridge.

The 28-year-old Englishman was speaking to chelseafc.com just after the match when he said the following:

‘I feel great now being back. Today was my first start in a while and I got to the 60th minute and I was starting to cramp up a little bit, but I gave everything I had to the game today and saw how far I can get. It’s brilliant to be back.

‘I love to play here in front of the fans. They give me such a good reception whenever I come here. Fortunately, personally and as a team, we repaid them with a win because they were brilliant today. My voice is gone, I’ve been shouting during the game!

‘Before the game, we knew how important it was. There was no need to motivate anyone today, everyone knew what was up for grabs – a Wembley final. It doesn’t get any better than that.

‘Obviously, the first leg was difficult. I wasn’t there, but looking on TV, it looked like a difficult game and we knew what style of football they were going to play and it was going to be difficult to break them down.

‘We needed to get that early goal and then the crowd were behind us and we kept pushing with as much energy as possible and caused them mistakes.’

Mentioning the fans so much during the interview showed that the player experienced motivation when the fans were cheering. It is safe to say that due to numbers, the voices of Chelsea fans were louder than those of the Boros.
