Manchester United’s coach Erik Ten Hag said the following to the club’s press following an underwhelming outing at Nottingham Forest:

‘Firstly, players are returning. I think we can line up a stronger team. We will also have a stronger bench and then you have your opportunities to change them. So I’m sure we will be stronger in the new year.

‘We are on the same boat, also the players are not happy with this but we have to turn the corner and do better. It’s because of the injuries and with also some issues but mainly the injuries hold us back in the progress.

‘We have to turn that around and what is hopeful, in January, our levels can be higher. We know the reasons why it’s not working. I’m just explaining no team can deal with so many issues and injuries, that we have had.

‘We should still have done better and we have depth in the squad but, when you have so many injuries, also the depth is not enough.’

Ten Hag added, ‘The ranking doesn’t lie. We have to make our performances consistent so we have to do better and have to invest from the first minute.

‘But I know the reasons and it makes no sense to get frustrated. I have to work on my team and that is what we are doing day by day.’

Next in line is Arsenal’s rich coach, Mikel Arteta who will lead his boys to Craven Cottage for a contest with Fulham today.

Speaking to Arsenal’s press about the pressure from Arsenal’s supporters, Arteta commented, ‘I don’t know – we want to win, they want to win with us and they are pushing the team to do that. There is nothing we can demand from the crowd, they have been exceptional for us, and the only thing we can do is give them more and get a lot more back.’

‘For sure, they want to win and they know the margins are really small. They want to see the team winning and this is what we have to do.’

A bad performance by The Gunners will mean going down to the fourth place on the Premier League table.

Concerning this, Arteta said, ‘We can be second as well, and winning we can be first so we have to do what we can control.

‘There’s no time to look at other teams, you see how difficult it is for other teams yesterday and today and it’s going to continue to be like that because the level of the league is incredible.’

Finally, Chelsea’s Mauricio Pochettino reacted in the wake of their beautiful performance against Luton Town in which the Blues collected three points.

‘There were many good performances. Players are stepping up,’ he said to Chelsea’s press during an interview. ‘We are happy. It’s only a matter of time, it’s not a piece of magic where you can touch it and start to build a team.

‘We have a group of players who all need to feel confident and feel they can fight for their place in the starting XI.

‘When you have a big squad, if we are all fit we have players who can perform and play. It’s very positive to increase this level in every position.’

The Argentine coach has good plans for 2024, but will start applying the plans this year.

‘It is really important to finish 2023 well and look forward to 2024,’ he said. ‘It was good to finish with good feelings and going into the new year keeping the momentum.’
