Erik Ten Hag on Gareth Southgate taking role

Dutch gaffer Erik Ten Hag had few things to say on rumours of Gareth Southgate possibly taking his role at Old Trafford.

It is no more secret that United’s new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe desires to employ England coach Southgate over the Red Devils’ first team.

Speaking to journalists recently, Ten Hag reacted as follows concerning the rumours:

‘You know when you are working at Manchester United that there will always be noise and rumours around the club, the team, the manager, the players – whatever.

‘They’re always coming up with an issue. You like it to talk about and of course we have a different interest but we are not focusing on that.

‘We are focusing on the process. We are focusing on getting the team to play better and improving the way we play so yeah, I don’t care about it.’

According to Ten Hag, the pressure at Manchester United is similar to that at Ajax where he was coming from.

‘I was trained at Ajax and it was similar. When you are working at top football clubs you get used to it, so we don’t care.

‘The players don’t care, I don’t care and we are working and cooperating together in the boat and we know we have to get the right results.’

Manchester United holds the sixth place on the Premier League table, behind tough competitors and weighed down with low performances.
